I’ve seen many people bidding farewell as they are, justifiably, expecting the worse to come. So we must ask ourselves: What comes next? Simple, a club isn’t about the clubhouse. It’s about everybody coming together as friends, having people to vent to, asking for advice for random life events, having people who understand be there for you.

If the Gawker Media Empire does indeed fall we will find a new club house. Or, someone with skills that by far bypass my own could create a new club house for us. As children that suddenly find themselves orphaned we may not end up in the same new home, this is a reality we must accept as a possibility. We are bound by a single thing though something a lawsuit cannot take away, our passion. That passion will always draw us to like minded people, that passion will keep the Oppo spirit alive even if Oppositelock does die.

Rest easy my fair Oppo, all will be well.

Appeals court will decide this. Also, it’s in the Hulkster’s best interest to allow the company to continue business. I doubt the company has $115MM (PLUS punitive damages) in their Cayman Islands account.

We could probably crowd fund the money for oppositelock.car($2099) and the cost of a host. I would assume after a bit ad revenue could cover many costs.

Yup. If the site shut down tomorrow who’s got the domain we should all go to?

Also the only thing that seems to make oppo cohesive and not just another phpbb is the people writing for a living and giving us a platform.

So it’s a mixed bag.

Currently there is no back up plan in place. There is bound to be a loose one at some point. However, I see it being wholly unnecessary.

I always thought of this as the people’s jalopnik: car folks of all stripes bullshittin about cars on the net. Then I just started coming here first and occaisionally reading jalopnik, which has kind of come and gone for me. But should the gawkerverse collapse on itself (it probably wont), I’ll miss this, the one truly cool corner of the internet.

It’s out in the open yet hidden very well. We came for the Jalopnik but stayed for the Oppositelock. While this is technically just another car guy blog there is something unique. As much as people hate Kinja that also adds to the setup now. There is no other combination like this out there. I don't think we have anything to worry about.
